sparkle!!

The waters of Cape Ann, Massachusetts, where I spent some time again this summer, sparkle. That's one reason that artists have returned here for years. It's due, partially, to the granite coastline they say and the light refracting off the water. Or maybe it's something else. I live hours south of Cape Ann, on the coast of Connecticut where our body of water is Long Island Sound. Not the north Atlantic, but still sparkly on a summer (or winter, for that matter) day.
It got me thinking about sparkling and what an other-worldly sensation it is. It's hypnotic. Staring at the light on the millions of little waves, warmed by the sun, inhaling the salty air, feeling the onshore breeze on your arms and shoulders -- it's a meditative, soothing, mesmerizing thing.
Maybe you have a different sparkly thing. Maybe it's the sound of pine trees needles brushed by the breeze, or a cool lake on a hot day. Perhaps you prefer a snowy mountain scene, brisk, cold and when you take in a breath the first part is icy in your throat. Or you might like the humidity of a bayou, or the dry sands of a dessert with heat shimmering in the distance.
Wherever you find your sparkle, take it in. Appreciate it whether you get to bask in it for hours or you just catch a magical glimpse from the corner of your eye before it evaporates back into the mundane. Look for the sparkle shining anywhere you see it in your life.
Take it in and then let it refract like the water in Cape Ann, right back out to the world around you. People will smile!
