notice what you're noticing
Notice what you are noticing because the things you pay attention to create your reality. As you leave one year behind again, and look forward to a new one, you may be one of many among us who resolves to change habits. And while I believe that anytime is a good time to make a change, I know that habits are hard to budge unless you reframe what you are noticing.
Losing weight is a big one. If that's your thing, change your frame. Instead of losing pounds, think of gaining. Think about gaining more reps or more steps each week. See, in your mind's eye, a new wardrobe for your new shape. Learn to enjoy different food. When your focus is on losing pounds, you miss out on all the benefits of the things you gain. When your focus is on the excitement of adding new things, you put yourself in a place of abundance. You might not even notice the number of pounds that have faded away because you are no longer paying attention to an arbitrary number. But you will notice you feel better. See? It doesn't mean don't make resolutions. It doesn't mean don't try to lose pounds. It means, to make changes in your world, you have to reframe your view.
Want to reduce screen time? Don't deprive yourself. Add to your life. Take up new (or old) practices, like walking, reading, listening to music, playing music, building something in your workshop, taking a class -- in person, if you can; do something that involves your hands and your body.
Reframing is simply another way of noticing what you notice. Paying attention to your actions, your words, your thoughts is good practice. Even if you have no interest in changing your habits, just spend some time noticing yourself. Notice your habits, your practices, and most important, notice your beliefs. Where does all of it come from? It comes from practice. Constant practice.
So, if you notice something that you want to change about yourself, you can do it. You'll likely have better success if you think about adding rather than subtracting. Just reframe it.
Happy New Year!
