make friends with friction

Sometimes I think we all need a little friction.

If everything is going smoothly, that's great. Fine. But, often, there are times when they aren't. You can't get to smooth without friction. You can't get to agreement – or at least coexistence –  without first coming into contact with something that, metaphorically, rubs you the wrong way. But if you are sincerely interested in progress (the progress that brings us all along together, not just bringing others into agreement with you), then I say, stay engaged. Whatever is your reason for staying invested, rubbing each other the wrong way will eventually smooth out the rough edges and you'll coexist, smoothly gliding right by each other.

That in itself might be all you need.

Or you may b

e lucky and blend into something that is stronger than two separate opponents – still holding on to your uniqueness, your individuality, but finding a happy way to align. Wouldn't that be a way to live? Unique. Holding your own. But supportive in a neighborly way. You give a little, you get a little. But you have to give. You have to be able to think of yourself as the other – and still find yourself supported.

Take it one step further and you might even find mutual support. Oh, imagine that world!
