it's all impermanence

I love summer. I wish it lasted longer. If I had my way, I’d take a month of winter and divide it into an extra week of spring, an extra week of fall and two more weeks of summer. I mean, I like the other seasons – winter the least – and enjoy many of what each has to offer. I just like summer best. Alas, I am not in charge.
Nothing lasts; I know. Not the good stuff, but not the bad either. So, if you are the opposite of me, don’t worry. Summer will soon end, cooler weather will arrive and winter – with its cold, short days and dark, long nights – will return.
This is not a lament. It’s a reality. Things will change. Seasons. Politics. People. Moods, feelings. Aches, pains. Experts, fools. In truth, I find it comforting even when I don’t like a thing. It reminds me always to appreciate what I’m enjoying and manage what I’m not.
So, work for and toward your goals with determination and kindness. Yes, it all will pass – but it also all matters. You matter. I matter. Moments matter. Enjoy the wonderful moments and manage through the difficult ones. It’s that simple. Not always easy, but pretty simple.
And on a personal note: I was very happy to be a guest on the Breathe, Love and Magic podcast hosted by Ronnie Ann Ryan. If you'd like to have a listen (it's a half hour long), please click here.
