Follow your path

You are always walking a path. Whether it's with your body, mind or soul, you are on a journey that is yours and yours alone.

By body, I mean the natural world of your physical space -- where you live, work, sleep. I mean the world of your five senses and the space you occupy as you live your way through what you see, smell, hear, touch and taste. Mind? Walking that path, you find yourself in the world of your thoughts, feelings and emotions. And soul or spirit? That is definitely also a journey you are on, but it is one that you must ultimately determine solely yourself. You may want to rely on guidance from people in your life or your may derive inspiration from books and writings of great thinkers of the present or past, but at the end of the day, you must walk this path solely alone. Your spiritual path, as much as or maybe even more so that others, is yours to work out just for you.

Joseph Campbell said, "If you can see your path laid out in front of you step by step, you know it's not your path. Your own path you make with every step you take. That's why it's your path."

He meant that other people have plans for you. Other people -- yes, these are often good people who genuinely love and care about you -- have a plan for you. That's nice. They DO care and they mean well. We all do this: we have the best interests of our loved ones at heart. But those interests, those plans, all that advice from well-meaning family and friends -- it's not YOUR plan. It's not your path.

No one can walk your journey. Not on this earth in your physical life and the choices you make; Not in the world of your mind -- your feelings, your thoughts, your opinions, your beliefs; and certainly Not through your soul's journey or spirit. Only you can walk your journey and make your own path.

If someone else, including the people who love or care about you the most, is telling you what to do, feel or know about your life, I say thank them and take whatever you want from their advice but then, leave them behind.

Look at your feet. Look into your mind, and look deep into your heart and soul. And then walk YOUR journey, yourself. Forge your own path. Create your life.
