"Without consciousness, things go less well."

March 2, 2020

In his book, "On This Journey We Call Our Life," James Hollis quoted Carl Jung:

The reason why consciousness exists, and why there is an urge to widen and deepen it, is very simple: without consciousness things go less well.

Hollis goes on in his own words:

Of course, however conscious we are, we will continue to encounter the suffering and struggles of life, but though self-examination one may also be able, from time to time, to actually live one's own journey, not that of one's parents or one's culture, or one's trauma.

We are, inescapably, mythological beings. The only questions are: what myth and whose, ours or someone else's?

May your week be one of conscious reflection and choices.
